2022-2023
From August 2022 till May 2023, I led the coordination and booking of 16 shows (total attendance of over 2,000) within the NC Triangle, taking us from humble backyards and basements to renowned venues like Cat’s Cradle, Local 506, and The Pinhook.
When we first started CSB, our expectations were modest—we simply wanted to fulfill our bucket list dream, make the most of our senior year, and have at least one person in the audience. But it turned into so much more than that. Our first headlining show at 1922 sold out within minutes of doors opening. We even won Delta Sigma Phi x Phi Mu’s Battle of the Bands, raising over $1,000 for the wonderful charity Musical Empowerment. Our participation in Carolina Union Activities Board’s Tar Heels Got Talent won us the opportunity to open for Grammy-Nominated artist Young Nudy, leading to a feature in The Daily Tar Heel. And to top it all off, we had the honor of playing at He’s Not Here the night before our Commencement! (It was pretty awesome.)
After a month of hard work and research into the world of e-commerce, we released our commemorative merch line. My personal favorite item is the Dark Chocolate Noble Street Records tee, named after our rehearsal/recording space (which happens to be my living room!) and my label through which we hope to release our first single.
As I designed the website and artwork for our merch line, my goal was to pay homage to all the amazing people who hosted us and helped make this year unforgettable. Drawing inspiration from some of our favorite bands like Sonic Youth, New Order, and Oasis, I took a minimalistic creative approach to capture the simplicity of our goals and achievements: we just want to play music.
I want to thank all the incredible musicians we’ve had the pleasure of meeting and playing with along the way: Arlie, Doggerland Loud, With Love, Monadi, Matty Frank, John Rodney, Braless, The Doink, Carrboro Electric Company, Debbie the Artist, and Rubber.
Though we graduated and are beginning the next chapter of our lives, we can’t quite say goodbye.
